Hello

Welcome to my first blog post. I am Emily and I am an a dog lover, business student, and workaholic. I currently am enrolled at Troy University in Troy, Alabama. I take classes online due to my need to work to support my adult lifestyle of unwavering bills and a mortgage. This is part of an assignment for my Business Communications course but I feel as this will be an outlet of expression or maybe just an outlet for the tears and triumphs through business school.

Some students, I am sure, grew up knowing that they wanted to go to business school and own a business one day or manage people. This however was not true for me. I went back and forth growing up on what I wanted to be. A doctor, a lawyer, a veterinarian, a journalist, and a fashion designer are just the ones that come to mind right now. A family illness was the reason for the decision I made to stay close to home and attend a community college for Nursing. Which I graduated with an LPN License in 2011. I have held a job as a nurse for the last 8 years either in a hospital, doctors office, or Assisted Living. The last two of my career have been with a new company in a new position as a Marketing Consultant. This sparked an interest in me that I had never had before which has led me to where I am today; Business School at the Sorrell College of Business at Troy University!

I mean when you look at my parents, managing people or owning a business has always been in my blood. My mother was a Postmaster for the United States Postal Service for several Post Offices around Alabama. My father a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a degree in Chemical Engineering who went from managing a chemical plant that he worked at to actually owning it. I have grown up watching my parents be strong fearless leaders while I mulled over what I wanted to do with my life as a child.

After reminiscing, I now realize everything happens for a reason and that things have happened in my life to make me the person I am today. I hopefully will be just as strong and compassionate leader as my parents were in their career fields. Healthcare is my passion and I plan to make a difference somehow. It may not be curing a disease but some way I will make a difference. Until then, I will enjoy this crazy journey that I am on since I only get to go through this once. Hoping to grow more from the things that life throws at me and to not sweat the small stuff.
